Transforming lives across Hawaii by training and placing service dogs with individuals with disabilities — providing independence, companionship, and a brighter future.
Hawaii Canine Assistance Network (HCAN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Honolulu, dedicated to training and placing highly skilled service dogs with Hawaii residents who have physical disabilities, mobility challenges, hearing impairments, and other special needs.
Our professionally trained service dogs provide life-changing assistance — helping people with disabilities live more independently, safely, and confidently throughout the Hawaiian Islands. From opening doors to alerting to sounds, our dogs are trained to meet each individual's unique needs.
Our certified trainers use positive reinforcement methods to develop highly skilled, reliable service dogs.
We match each dog with the right person, ensuring lasting bonds that transform daily life.
We provide ongoing support to all our service dog teams throughout the working life of the dog.

Trained to assist individuals with mobility impairments — helping with balance, retrieving items, opening doors, and providing physical support.
Specially trained to alert deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to important sounds including doorbells, alarms, and their name being called.
Supporting veterans and civilians with PTSD and psychiatric disabilities through trained behavioral interventions and emotional support.
Community volunteers raise our puppies in loving homes during their first year, providing critical socialization for future service dogs.
It costs approximately $25,000 to breed, raise, train, and place one service dog. Your donation helps us continue providing these life-changing animals to Hawaii residents who need them most — at no cost to recipients.
